The Ideal Student

When I think of the ideal student, I think of someone who is smart, but doesn't completely rely on their abilities. I think of someone who may get frustrated from time to time, but won't stop working until they understand the concept or figure out the problem. Many people quit when the information gets a little too difficult to grasp, or ask others for the answer as soon as they realize they got the wrong one. If this situation arose for the ideal student, they would not stop after a few minutes of contemplating the problem, or after one wrong answer. The ideal student would think about this problem for a significant amount of time, get many different answers, and would only stop when they knew they did everything possible in order to find a solution.

  1. Good definition! Not giving up and continuing to persevere is a key quality in what I also believe an ideal student should be.

  2. I really like the first sentence. I think it shows that you cant just do well by doing nothing. You have to work to hone your craft, in this case, studying. I also like the never give up mentality, perserverance is definatly important.

  3. Kelsi, Lindsey, and Toby,

Thank you for the post. Kelsi, I am amazed at what you wrote. You'll have to share it with everyone in the class. It is easy being an ideal student when the going is easy... but when the going gets rough, too many good students fall by the way side. They've never been truly challenged before.

Thanks, Lindsey and Toby, for your comments back. You've picked and supported the pieces that you liked in Kelsi's definition. YAY!

  4. Good post. I don't know if you've started reading the MINDSET book yet, but the author has a similar view of what your view is. Ideal students find a way to improve their intellectual abliities.
